The Prodigal Son

This composition is the result of a fruitful collaboration between Mezzo-soprano Madison Marie McIntosh, recipient of The American Prize in Vocal Performance in 2020, and myself. Ms. McIntosh's deep appreciation for sacred music, coupled with her constant exploration of new compositions for sacred texts, sparked the inspiration for this project. Our collaboration took shape when I had the pleasure of connecting with Ms. McIntosh in May 2023. I, embarked on the creation of an oratorio based on the biblical text from Luke 15, recommended text by her. The synthesis of Ms. McIntosh's vocal prowess and my compositional skills has given rise to a musical endeavor that seeks to convey the profound essence of this sacred narrative. The Premier is set to be on January 12 of 2024 in Gainesville, Florida.
